Success does not Come by Chance

Although some people question his success and the success of the whole family, by saying that they obtained their capital and financial empire due to relations with the political establishment, no one can deny the ambition and the passion for work of Dragomir Karić and the other member of his family. It is also a matter of vision, because they were the first to introduce mobile phone, information technology and high standard television in Serbia. Dragomir Karić talked with “The Globe” magazine about the former and present governments, about the political high-classes, road signs of economy, foreign investors, “guilt” and “persecution”, but also about everyday family subjects.

We were interested to know his opinion about the development possibilities of Serbia, how he can contribute to the political life of the country as a Member of Parliament and how he succeeds between Parliament sessions, business meetings and other obligations, to be a good husband, father and grandfather.

Given that you work in politics and that it is a hot subject, I would like to open our conversation, by asking you what you think about the reconstructed Government of Serbia.

Serbia finally took serious steps towards its future. Regardless that the Government is frequently reconstructed or that it works in a stable way, we must change our habits and philosophy and stop giving priority to party interests over national interests. Former governments, which cared only about party interests, drowned us in debts and deprived us of any hope to get out the crisis. They fooled themselves, when they thought that they could achieve their goals from the summits, where clouds cannot be seen, and without a compass. That is why; I do not see this reconstruction as some of our “analysts on duty” do. They perceive it as a “soap opera” or a “Latin American telenovela”, but I don’t. I see it as a new philosophy, which promises to finally lead Serbia into a certain future. The main reason is that Dačić and Vučić initiated the reconstruction not because the ministers were not good, but because they wished a “transfusion”, which would speed up all what they had begun and open new paths. Only in this way they can do the same in other spheres, especially in the modernization of the public administration.

Can the replacement of certain ministers contribute to enhancing the work and results of the government?

I sincerely hope that it can. They are not burdened by the subconscious thoughts of someone, who has done his work successfully for a long time and is sure that new problems can be solved in the same way as the old ones. I do not mean that any of them was bad, but that it requires a huge bravery from Dačić and Vučić to realize the importance of economic development, finances and the unemployment problem, sectors in which there were no results that could transform Serbia into a socially responsible state. For a long time we have been talking about 700,000 unemployed people. It does not matter that they live from social help or the “gray economy”. The most tragic is that many young, educated and work-capable people live from the pocket-money that their parents give them and not from their work. This development philosophy has to come to an end, because it increased debts, destroyed the industry and threw the economy into the arms of those funds, whose main goal is not to develop our capacity but to import the products of others. Serbia once conquered the world market with the so-called “baby beef”, while nowadays we are not able to export even those 10,000 tones of beef that the EU allows us to export in favorable conditions!

Do you support the fact that some ministries were taken by professionals and not by politicians?

I think that there is nothing sensational here. Didn’t we bring professionals to the first government of premier Đinđić? The eternal question is whether those professionals boost or hinder the development of the country. It is too early to make any forecast, because each of them must prove his capacity. Everything suggests that it was a good choice, but given that Dačić and Vučić carried out the reconstruction, it is real to expect that they will look for those, who can accomplish in the best and fastest way the promises given during the elections.
